We learned how to use a new math tool- a tens frame. tens frames help us organize our work when we are counting multiple objects. We know that there are five spaces on top and five spaces on the bottom of the frame. The tens frames we use at our tables are much smaller than the one we built on the floor! But, they still work in the same way. After rolling our large die, we filled the ten frame to match the number on the die. We noticed that people could fill the frame in a different formation but if the three boxes were filled, it always equaled three- even if the items weren't right next to each other. We also have become subitizing experts. We can see a number 1-6 and just know that what it is without even counting the individual dots on the die.

Only 16 days at school and we earned 84 warm fuzzies! Students sorted the pom poms by color, counted each pile and then determined which color had the most pom poms and which color had the least.
Students then came up with a plan for our celebration- extra recess and popsicles! An added bonus was that Mrs. Birdsall's kindergarten class happened to fill their warm fuzzy jar on the same day!! We got to celebrate together! What a perfect way to end the week! We can use our whole bodies to write our numbers. We used straight lines and curved lines and we started each number at the top of the paper! Our Rainbow numbers definitely brighten up the hallway!
