Mrs. Lutz, our school psychologist, came in to visit Kindergarten today. She brought her friend, Brownie. Mrs. Lutz will visit with us throughout the year and share Second Steps with us. Each time we meet, we talk about how to listen, to take turns, and to be a good friend. Today, we played a game called Follow, Follow. It's kind of like Simon Says, except that it doesn't have any tricks in the game! Mrs. Lutz said that we already knew so much about listening, following directions, and waiting our turn that she said we were like sixth graders!! We have been reading Dr. Suess' 10 Apples Up on Top. In addition to counting all of the apples that the animals balance, we talked about "anticipation". We knew each page we read made us more and more anxious. We could tell something bad was going to happen. We discussed how the suspense and anticipation makes the story more exciting and makes us want to read more! And, boy, was there a mess in the end! Apples went everywhere!!
Some of us started printing with apples today. We had fun stamping apples on top of our heads and then counting how many we were able to fit on a page. Some friends used all one color, others chose different colors and some even created patterns. We will finish painting tomorrow. |
