Through games, activities and songs, we have been noticing the subtle differences between short vowel sounds. In addition we are matching the letter with the sound. We have made vowel "popsicles" and thrown bean bags as well as using our secret vowel passwords to enter and to leave the classroom. It's become our top secret code! Students then apply this awareness to their reading and writing, particularly as we focus on simple cvc words. (3 letter consonant, vowel, consonant words).

The students set up their learning "stations" and got busy researching and writing their All About books. This week's challenge was to practice writing sentences using punctuation and lowercase letters. We have been noticing that sentences start with an uppercase letter but most of the other words are made up of lowercase letters. Since we are authors, we want our work to reflect what we see in other books! The excitement surrounding these books is amazing. The students are already working on the PR/Book tour. They asked if we could visit each class and share their work. One person also suggested we add our nonfiction collection to the library!
