Using chalk to create Gross Motor and Fine Motor activities during our Extra Recess!

We couldn't help but drop everything and head outside when we saw the first flakes start to fall! Though the snow and ice didn't last, the memory of the day and the plan for future science experiments with ice and snow will last throughout the season! We learned a new Math word, INVENTORY! We learned that taking an inventory of different items, can be very helpful. It can indicate when certain pieces need to be replaced. It can provide information to determine what groups of objects have more or less. We discussed a type of inventory that parents take, often weekly-creating a grocery list. We also discussed how we take an inventory in school- counting heads while lining up to make sure we have everybody and counting pencils in order to see if they need replacing or simply sharpening. We worked with partners to determine how many items were in each bag. After our initial count, students were asked to double check their work with their partner. If there was any discrepancy, students had to problem solve in order to figure out the correct amount.
