We learned how to use a new math tool- a tens frame. tens frames help us organize our work when we are counting multiple objects. We know that there are five spaces on top and five spaces on the bottom of the frame. The tens frames we use at our tables are much smaller than the one we built on the floor! But, they still work in the same way. After rolling our large die, we filled the ten frame to match the number on the die. We noticed that people could fill the frame in a different formation but if the three boxes were filled, it always equaled three- even if the items weren't right next to each other. We also have become subitizing experts. We can see a number 1-6 and just know that what it is without even counting the individual dots on the die.
