The children love when we sing and play the New Shoe song. Not only do we sing about the excitement of getting new shoes, we also sing about the color of shoes or the type of shoe. When a type of shoe is called, children with shoes that match the description stand on the platform and the audience notices similarities and differences between the shoes. In addition to comparing the shoes, children inevitably share their math observations including counting the pairs and counting by two, making number sentences with the differences they notice and also simply admiring and complimenting each other on their cool footwear! Of course, the best part is to then skip and dance around the classroom as we sing our New Shoe Song. We love when we play the New Shoe song and we especially love when the teachers take part, too. Mrs. Cassidy was so excited to get a chance to play with the children and Mrs. D!
