Today we practiced partner reading. We sit side by side, we carefully share holding the book, we use a quiet voice, and we see-saw read! We talked about what happens when you're on a see-saw. One person gets a turn to go up in the air and the other person waits patiently. However, to get the see-saw to move each person has an important job to do. See-saw reading is the same. One person gets a turn to read while the other actively listens and waits their turn. Then, the partners switch jobs!
You might not know who John Chapman is, but I bet you know about Johnny Appleseed! As we read the story about his travels across America, we found lots of words to describe Johnny Appleseed. Students thought that he was brave, kind, adventurous and clever! Did you know he wore a saucepan on his head because he had too many apple seeds in his bag! The pot wouldn't fit in his bag (or sack) so he decided to wear it as a hat. Very clever! All this week we will be celebrating Johnny Appleseed. We can't wait to share with you about all of the things we do with apples!
