We had an incredible field trip to Chapter 126 in Bristol, today. The students had the opportunity to try various exercises and activities that have been modified to be accessible to people with different abilities. We rotated between 4 stations: chair exercises and weight lifting, learning how to be a guide for vision impaired, wheel chair basketball, and softball and kickball for the visually impaired. Not only did we learn how to use different senses to guide us and different techniques to accomplish a goal, we also learned about empathy and looking at people's differences in a new light. I am so proud of each of the kiddos for participating in all of the activities. At first, some of the stations were a bit intimidating, but every one worked through their fears and tried! In the end, we all enjoyed ourselves and had a blast trying new things! Coach Paul was proud of us, too!

What a day! Cupcakes and PJs were a wonderful way to celebrate filling our Warm Fuzzy Jar and celebrating a friend's birthday! Several people saw our class walking down the hallway in our comfy pajamas and asked us if we forgot to get dressed this morning!
During Writing, we brainstormed vocabulary words that we might want to use to write a description of our favorite types of cupcakes. Several students used the list as a resource to help them write down important details and to label their drawings. In addition to using great vocabulary, students used beautiful color and detail to decorate their cupcakes. As a final treat, we all got to eat real cupcakes! A feast for the eyes and a feast for our bellies! |
